I wanted to try animations in Substance Designer for a while now and thought it would be a good chance, to create a flickering candle, completely procedural of course. The textures are animated through a simple time-function paired with sin and cosine waves, while an animated noise pans over the textures to randomize the intensity.
Together with a variation of my burlap material, some custom font, grunge and inkblots I created some kind of medieval papyrus. The candle is a simple setup with just some slop blurred grunges blended in together and a mask for translucency.
